Yoga for Immunity by Jamie Duckert

The word Immunity is complicated. For this blog I’m using the medical definition. Immunity is a complex network of organs, cells & proteins that defend the body against invaders as well as protect the body’s own healthy cells.

This is a lot to understand so I’ll break it down:

  • Anatomy:  Just a few of the organs responsible for supporting immunity include the thymus gland, spleen, lymph nodes and the bone marrow! In organs and bones, stem cells are produced. These starter cells evolve into other cells and infection fighting warriors. They are magical!

  • We are born with an Immune System and our amazing bodies want it to run efficiently. However, we are being bombarded by harmful and possibly detrimental invaders. Once in the body, our warriors line up to keep healthy cells in check and remove dangers.

  • Our bodies are working hard to keep us well. When unwell stress, pain, fatigue and anxiety may alter our days.  So… make proper choices when ingesting. Not only food and drink but surroundings, screens, toxic places and people…...

  • Science has proven HOW stress affects our immune system. When it’s not working, we Get Sick. Being sick can make us stressed, being stressed can make us sick.

  • Let’s get out of the loop!

  • Yoga can help create and sustain proper immunity. It moves lymphatic fluid and compresses organs during twists. Our heart pumps blood to tissues while the breath inhales life giving oxygen into the cells. Yoga creates vitality yet understands the power of rest.

My Mantra to anyone that listens is “keep moving”.  Breathe in while noticing the belly fill and let that exhale take its time. Firm the thighs and lengthen your spine the next time waiting in line. Don’t be self-conscious to stretch your arms overhead or break out into a Warrior II.

You may want to consider the time and place first.
