FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I arrive for class?
To protect everyone’s belongings and ensure an ideal yoga experience, we lock the doors right at the time class starts. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early if it’s your first class. Arriving early will ensure you spot in the room, especially if it’s a busy class time.
I’ve never tried yoga before. Where do I start?
We have a number of yoga classes that are good places to find a foundation for the kind of practice you prefer. We offer a few yoga basics classes, which break down alignment, breathing, strengthening, and stretching. You can find the most current offerings on our schedule page.
The hot yoga series is great for beginners, as the instructor will walk you through the details of each pose. It is also nice because it's the same 26 poses each time. You can track your progress over time and see how your body is changing with the practice.
Do you have showers at your studios?
Sadly, we do not have showers at either location.
What if I'm not very flexible?
Then you should definitely start practicing yoga. The practice is intended to give your body a balance of strength and flexibility, which most people do not naturally have. Genetics, injuries, and our increasingly sedentary modern lifestyle all contribute to imbalances in the body. Yoga can help to correct these imbalances. Be sure to let the teacher know about any particular injuries or limitations you might have so he or she can help you with adjustments as necessary.
Is it a cardiovascular exercise? Can I lose weight?
Any exercise that increases the work of the heart and lungs is a cardiovascular exercise. Hot, vinyasa, and many other forms of hatha yoga not only work the cardiovascular system, but increase lung capacity and train the body to work more efficiently. A consistent yoga practice can transform your body inside and out.
How is yoga different from other exercise?
The purpose of the physical practice of yoga is to calm the fluctuations of the mind. You can't think about your taxes or what you're going to make for dinner while standing on one foot. You'll fall over! Eventually you learn to only focus on the practice and give your brain a much-needed break.
What should I bring?
You will want to bring a mat, water, and a towel (for hot or heated classes). These things are available for purchase or rent at the studio if you don't have them. Please wear comfortable clothing that isn’t too loose. Baggy clothes tend to get in the way of movement.
Do I need to reserve a spot?
Yes! Due to the on-going pandemic, spaces in the studio are limited. Please reserve your spot online ahead of time. See our “Covid-19” tab for more information on our cancellation policy. We also ask you sign up for all online classes ahead of time as well!
What’s the new student special?
The new student special is 14 days of unlimited yoga for $30. It can be used at either studio, for any drop-in class. It is available for you to purchase the first time you attend a class with us and is a great way to check out a lot of classes!
