Teacher Spotlight - April

How did you come to practice yoga?

My first ever yoga class was with my aunt who taught in Benson. She talked me into trying it out, but I was young and nothing I did at that point in my life stuck, lol! I came back to the mat several years later and tried hot yoga, I was instantly hooked. I practiced hot for 10 years or so before I started taking flow and hatha classes at One Tree. I signed up for teacher training just a few months later, one of the best decisions of my life!

When did you decide that you wanted to be a teacher? How long have you been teaching?

When I signed up for teacher training I did not have intentions of actually teaching, I just wanted to learn more.  The more I learned about the practice the more time I wanted to spend practicing and sharing yoga with others. And I wasn’t done learning yet – teaching is another learning experience of its own.  I graduated in May of 2018 and started teaching shortly after at my Crossfit gym and at the fitness center at Union Pacific.

What Style(s) of yoga do you teach? What do you like about it/them?

At One Tree I primarily teach hot yoga. I love a good challenge and hot yoga is always challenging! Every time you do the practice, even though it is the same sequence, it feels different in your body and is a new experience.

What is your favorite pose? Why?

My favorite pose right now is ardha chandrasana, or half moon pose.  This pose used to be next to impossible for me; my standing foot would always jut inward causing me to lose my balance. After a lot of practice and hip work, I am able to do the pose with ease! It reminds me that anything is attainable if you put in the work.

What do you like to do when you’re not at yoga?

When I am not at yoga I enjoy spending time outdoors –going on long walks, jogging or biking. I have two German shepherds who have my heart and require a lot of attention! I also love reading and spending time with my amazing husband and friends.

Where can we find you on the One Tree Yoga schedule?

You can find me at the East location on Wednesday nights for hot. I am also rotating Saturdays at East for the “$5 Holla” class at 4pm
