INTRODUCING OUR STAFF: MEET MARY PAT

Tell us about yourself!

I love to garden, read, needlepoint, play pickleball, travel, cook & do yoga. My husband Scott and I have 3 grown kids. We have 2 sons in Omaha and a daughter who is married living in

Denver with her husband and son. We have a new red fox Labrador puppy that keeps us laughing and the household hopping. And I have a passion and love for Uganda. I am president of the board of a Ugandan Education Fund where we now have over 125 kids that we educate in and around Kampala, Uganda.

What's your favorite style of yoga?

I am torn between hot yoga and hatha as my favorite style of yoga. The repetition of the 26 poses in each hot class gives the yogi a benchmark with which to see physically how the

body is doing day to day and the four on the floor poses in the hot series are so beneficial for the back! Hatha prepares the body for a pose in an intellectual & intentional way. I love the creativity that is involved in planning & participating in a hatha class. I love that the poses allow for more exploration and preparation in leading to the final pose.

How long should savasana be?

As we all know – our time is SO different from day to day, month to month and year to year. As long as you can allow for in your personal practice! In  an hour class, I like to allow for approximately the last 3 minutes. In a 75-minute class, I strive for a 3-5 minute savasana. And if you can’t practice yoga on any given day, just take some time to close your eyes, breath, & be grounded in gratitude…Ahhhhh!

Where can we find you on the OTY schedule?

Currently, I am teaching a Wednesday morning hot class 9:00-

10:15. I also teach a senior/gentle yoga class on Thursdays from 11:30-12:30. I would love to have you join me!
