Teacher Spotlight: Tracy Astorino
Tell us a little about you.
I am married to my high school sweetheart. We have been married for 29 years! We have 4 children. Two live in the Omaha area and two live out of state. I have been in healthcare for the last 25 years. I love being in the outdoors. My favorite location is anywhere in the mountains of Colorado. I love to travel. My first yoga experience was five years ago at Yoga on the Rocks in Colorado. I instantly fell in love, which led me to continue the practice and become a yoga teacher.
What is the biggest impact that yoga has had on your life?
The biggest impact that yoga has had on my life is the ability to find stillness. I spent many years as a runner, always training for the next race. I never took time to actually be in my body. After an accident and not being able to run, I turned to yoga. Thank goodness I did, as it has changed my emotional and mental health. I have so much gratitude for this practice.
When do you apply the lessons of yoga in your daily life?
I apply the lessons of yoga continuously throughout the day. Whether I am working, volunteering or practicing, I remind myself to find peace, love and presence in the moment. Yoga is in every layer of my life.
What are your 3 go-to poses if you need a quick practice?
My 3 go to poses are downward facing dog (feel that deep stretch), pigeon pose (release the tension in my hips) , and savasana (let it go and breathe).
What is your favorite style of yoga right now and why?
My favorite style of yoga right now would be the hot series. I find myself going deeper into my moving meditation while exerting every muscle within my body. The structure and repitition of the practice I find to be quite therapeutic for my body and mind.
What is unique about your classes and your style of teaching?
I teach because I love it. I think most people can feel my energy and passion about the practice in the studio and outside of it. I think that's my style, "free and easy." We have to have compassion for ourselves in our practice. We show up where we are and who we are that day. No two days are the same. I have found something I want to share with as many people as possible. I want an inclusive, loving, and energetic experience for all.
