Teacher Spotlight: Meet Cassie

Tell us a little about you.

I began my yoga journey in 2014 practicing hot yoga at One Tree. I was in a transition stage of my life and wanted to work on my mental and physical wellness. After showing up for a while and seeing my practice rapidly evolve, I noticed that something was happening within. I was hooked. I started taking other styles of yoga and fell in love with Alison and Gabe’s approach to the practice… no nonsense, practical and relatable. They taught me that the practice on the mat is directly related to our presence in the real world. Yoga has taught me so much about myself, my relationships, how to slow down and *try* to maintain balance. I just completed the 2020 OTY Teacher Training and I look forward to beginning my teaching journey. My other passions are my fur babies, running and training for races, and spending time outdoors in any fashion.

What is the biggest impact that yoga has had on your life?

Yoga really changed my life. When I was going through a big shift I somehow was drawn to wanting to practice. Over the years it has taught me to be present, more kind and gentle with myself and others and to not take things so seriously.

When do you apply the lessons of yoga in your daily life?

When I feel agitation, usually with myself, I utilize what I have learned on the mat and pillow to breathe and *try* to give myself or others grace and love.

What are your 3 go-to poses if you need a quick practice?

My go to's are typically hip openers or forward folds because I've been running a lot since covid started. Pigeon pose, standing wide leg forward fold and half spinal twist is done most mornings as well as a few sun salutations.

What is your favorite style of yoga right now and why?

I love yin. I'm always on the move so I get much joy slowing down and relaxing into poses... Actually I need it!

What is unique about your classes and your style of teaching?

I'm currently only guiding the silent hot series. I hope that I can bring light and joy to my classes and love when I get to see familiar faces!
