Teacher Spotlight: Meet Catie
Catie Bacon is a long-time OTY employee who has worn MANY hats for us throughout the years! She’s been a hot yoga teacher, a wall-ropes teacher, a yin teacher, a manager, a personal shopper, a social media guru. What can’t she do?
You can currently find her East on Wednesday evenings teaching a super skilled 75 minute hot yoga class. We are so grateful for Catie’s willingness to do literally anything we need help with. Not to mention her steady, solid teaching skills.
We interviewed Catie for our most recent newsletter. Here’s the interview in case you missed it:
1.Tell us a little about you.
I'm married with 3 children, ages 5, 2 1/2 and 7 months. We just built our first home and are moving in at the end of May! I love to cook and am trying to learn how to step up my baking skills. My first yoga experience was at One Tree in 2009 and I haven't left since.
2. What is the biggest impact that yoga has had on your life?
I have learned to react slower and to observe more carefully, not just in relation to my physical body, but emotionally, spiritually, mentally, etc.
3. When do you apply the lessons of yoga in your daily life?
With 3 little ones comes a lot of emotion. Yoga has helped me to find patience through breath, offering me a sense of calm.
4. What are your 3 go-to poses if you need a quick practice?
I love a good child's pose these days. Also dandayamana janushirasana and anjaneyasana.
5. What is your favorite style of yoga right now and why?
Yin or anything gentle and slow, really. Generally the only time I can squeeze yoga in these days is during naps, and by that time my body is craving something restful, yet still impactful.
6. What is unique about your classes and your style of teaching?
I try to teach out of my own experiences on the mat. I offer cues that have benefited me and my body or my knowledge of the pose in hopes that someone else might also have a new insight or experience in their own practice.
